Honoring the Goddess Brigid & Awakening the Inner Fire
The History of Imbolc
Imbolc, celebrated on February 1st-2nd, is a Celtic fire festival marking the halfway point between Winter Solstice (Yule) and Spring Equinox (Ostara). The name Imbolc means “in the belly,” referring to the pregnancy of ewes and the returning fertility of the land.
This sacred sabbat honors Brigid, the Goddess of fire, healing, poetry, fertility, and smithcraft. Brigid is the keeper of the sacred flame, symbolizing inspiration, protection, and transformation. Ancient Celts lit candles and hearth fires to welcome the growing strength of the sun and purify their homes and spirits for the coming spring.
Imbolc is a time of renewal, purification, and setting intentions for the months ahead.

Sin City Witches Imbolc Ritual
Purpose: To cleanse old energy, awaken inner fire, and invoke Brigid’s blessings for inspiration and renewal.
Supplies:
- A white or red candle (Brigid’s flame)
- A bowl of water (symbolizing purification and renewal)
- A piece of paper & pen (to write an intention)
- A small offering (milk, honey, or bread for Brigid)
- Incense (rosemary, frankincense, or cinnamon if available)
Step 1: Cleanse & Set Sacred Space
- Cleanse your space by smudging with rosemary or burning incense.
- Place your candle in the center of your altar or sacred space.
- Fill a bowl with water and place it nearby as a symbol of purification.
Step 2: Light the Flame of Imbolc
Take a deep breath and light your candle, saying:
“By the flame of Brigid, I welcome the light,
Cleansing the darkness, renewing my sight.
May inspiration and passion ignite,
As I step into power, divinely bright.”
Sit for a moment, watching the flame flicker and grow. Visualize the returning sun, the spark of creativity, and the seeds of your intentions beginning to awaken.
Step 3: Purification & Release
Dip your fingers into the bowl of water and touch your forehead, saying:
“I cleanse my mind of doubt and fear,
I welcome clarity, the path is clear.”
Touch your heart, saying:
“I cleanse my heart, I open wide,
To love, to fire, to light inside.”
Touch your hands, saying:
“I cleanse my hands, ready to create,
To build, to manifest, to shape my fate.”
Step 4: Setting Intentions
Take a piece of paper and write one thing you wish to manifest during the growing light of the year.
Hold the paper over the candle’s glow and read it aloud with power:
“Brigid, Keeper of Flame and Light,
Bless my path, my goals take flight.
May this intention burn strong and bright,
Guided by wisdom, love, and sight.”
Place the paper under the candle or in a safe space on your altar.
Step 5: Offering to Brigid
Take a small amount of milk, honey, or bread and place it in a dish or outside as an offering.
Say:
“Brigid, I honor you this night,
With gifts of love, with firelight.
Bless my path and guide my way,
With wisdom, strength, and bright array.”
Imbolc Affirmation
Repeat this daily as you embrace the energy of renewal:
“I am a flame of power, growing strong and bright. I release the past and welcome the light. My dreams awaken, my path is clear. I step forward in magick, this is my year.”
Closing the Ritual
- Take a moment to meditate on the warmth of the flame.
- Blow out the candle or let it burn safely, knowing the fire within you continues to grow.
- Give thanks to Brigid, the spirits, and the elements for their blessings.
Imbolc is a time to awaken, cleanse, and set the stage for growth. This is a powerful time for witches to ignite their inner fire, honor the Goddess, and prepare for new opportunities.
